If you still have normal hearing, but you are frequently exposed to noisy environment, the wearing of hearing protectors is definitely necessary to preclude the risk of hearing damage.
You can roughly measure whether you are exposed to a noise level of 80 dB and above by observing whether you need to raise your voice in order to be heard by your listener positioned just a half meter away. And for every increase of 3 dB, the safe exposure time reduces by half. If you are exposed to 83 dB, the safe exposure time is 4 hours; at 86 db, 2 hours; and at 92 dB, only 30 minutes!
If you are frequently exposed to loud noises, such as getting stuck in noise pollution due to the high traffic of Jakarta, working in noisy heavy factories, or working as a dentist when you do a lot of teeth drilling, we encourage to look into hearing protections. The earlier you take steps to conscientiously protect your hearing, the longer you can maximize your hearing ability for life.
