How old do I need to be before I can use a hearing aid?

Is hearing test painful?

How long does it take to get myself fitted with hearing aid?

If you are diagnosed with mild-to-severe hearing aid and you opt for a Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) or Open-Fit hearing aid, you should be able to be fitted on the same day. On the other hand, if you have severe-to-profound hearing loss, you would most likely to have a custom earmold to be attached with your superpower hearing instrument for maximum hearing ability. This process can take up to a week. And if discreetness is important for you, it can take up to 4 weeks if you choose for an In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing aid.

Why do my hearing aids produce weird sounds when I start wearing them?

If your hearing quality does not change after we fit you with hearing aids, we would be very worried.

If you have been suffering hearing loss for an extended period of time, you may be missing many sounds without realizing it. With sound intelligibility technology found in the latest hearing aids that can automatically adjust sounds according to your degree of hearing loss, you would hear different levels of sound that you may have not heard for years. Why does it hurt when I put on my hearing aids?

How do I know when to change my hearing aid battery?

Unlike a torch battery that gradually grows dimmer upon usage, hearing aids are designed to shut off in an instant when the battery runs dry.

How long does a hearing aid last?

Under normal condition, your hearing aid would typically last 3 to 5 year with proper care and maintenance.

To prolong your life of your hearing aid, we recommend that you bring back your hearing aid back at least once a year for professional cleaning by our hearing aid technicians.

Can I wear my hearing aids through security screening?

At the time of this writing, most hearing aids would not set off alarms when being scanned through X-ray screening, metal detector, or hand-held metal detector. Moreover, keeping your hearing aids on would also enables you to communicate with the security officers if required.

However, body worn hearing aids or personal listening devices may contain enough metal parts that they should be packed inside your carry-on bag. Rest assured, the security scanner should not harm your hearing aids, or related devices.

We don’t think it is necessary to remove your hearing aids at security checkpoints.

Can I repair my hearing aids at your hearing center?

Yes, we do repair hearing aids for brands that we carry in our store.

The duration of the repair period depends on the damage. If it is a minor defect, such as a broken battery door, we can repair them in our lab and you can get them back on the same day. However, if the damage requires manufacturer assistance, it would usually take about 3 weeks.

Can I borrow hearing aids from your hearing center?

We loan hearing aids to our patients when they are available and appropriate, such as when a patient’s hearing aids are being repaired. However, during the duration of the loan period, we would require a security deposit that is equivalent to the retail price of the hearing aids being loaned.

When does my ear stops growing?

The shape of our ear canal changes throughout our lives. That is why if you are using custom hearing aids, earmolds or hearing protectors, you might to have them replaced every four years.

If you are still a children under the age of 16 years old, your whole body is growing and changing very rapidly. The lifespan of your custom hearing aids, earmolds or hearing protectors would be much shorter.

Can my ears to be trained to listen to loud noise comfortably?

Sorry, you can’t. Anyone who thinks they can be trained to listen to loud noises, he or she is already probably suffering from hearing damage.

At this moment, there is no treatment for hearing loss. Even hearing aids cannot fully restore diminished hearing, as they just make you hear better by amplifying sounds according to the level of hearing loss and your hearing preferences.

We encourage you to protect your hearing while you still have the chance to do so.

When should I be wearing hearing protectors?

As a health safety precaution, we should not allow our ears to be exposed to a noise level of 80dB and above for over eight hours daily. If you still have normal hearing, but you are frequently exposed to noisy environment, the wearing of hearing protectors is definitely necessary to preclude the risk of hearing damage.

You can roughly measure whether you are exposed to a noise level of 80 dB and above by observing whether you need to raise your voice in order to be heard by your listener positioned just a half meter away. And for every increase of 3 dB, the safe exposure time reduces by half. If you are exposed to 83 dB, the safe exposure time is 4 hours; at 86 db, 2 hours; and at 92 dB, only 30 minutes!

If you are frequently exposed to loud noises, such as getting stuck in noise pollution due to the high traffic of Jakarta, working in noisy heavy factories, or working as a dentist when you do a lot of teeth drilling, we encourage to look into hearing protections. The earlier you take steps to conscientiously protect your hearing, the longer you can maximize your hearing ability for life.
